AASTMT Shines in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has achieved a noteworthy milestone in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, further establishing its reputation as a leading global institution. This prestigious ranking evaluates universities based on their contributions toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), measuring their global impact in advancing sustainability and addressing critical societal challenges.
A Stellar Ranking Achievement
In the latest Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, AASTMT secured an impressive 306th position out of 1,963 universities worldwide. This significant achievement also places the Academy 3rd among Egyptian universities and 19th in the Arab region, highlighting its prominence and commitment to sustainable development on multiple fronts.
Under the visionary leadership of Professor Dr Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, AASTMT has made remarkable strides since its first application for the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings in 2020. The rigorous ranking process evaluates universities based on their success in meeting various SDGs, using criteria such as teaching, research, and community service.

In the Arab region, AASTMT led SDG 7 and achieved 12th place for SDG 4, underscoring its significant impact and leadership in advancing sustainability goals.

AASTMT has been ranked around 1001 globally, a significant improvement from its previous position of around 1101 last year. This result places AASTMT among the top 1503 universities worldwide, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to excellence and continuous development.

AASTMT is Recognized in the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas. 1,559 institutions have been ranked across these subjects this year. We are thrilled to announce that AASTMT was recognized by QS in subject areas. This effort was also recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education for excellence by ‘Subject Area’. This year AASTMT has been recognized by subject area in the fields of Petroleum Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and Information Systems.

The QS World University Rankings by ‘Subject Area’ assesses universities across a wide range of academic disciplines or subject areas, such as Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences & Management, and Life Sciences & Medicine. Each subject area ranking evaluates universities based on their performance and reputation within that specific field.
In addition, AAST was amongst the only two non-public universities recognized and congratulated for subject performance by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education (read more here). This outstanding performance in the QS ranking reflects the hard work and expertise of AASTMT faculty, researchers, and students. It reaffirms AASTMT’s position as a leader in these disciplines and underscores AASTMT’s impact on the global academic community.

AASTMT ranked 2nd in Egypt and 3rd in the Arab region according to the Arab ranking for universities “ARU”.

In the first edition of the Arab Ranking of Universities, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport is among the top 10 universities in Egypt and 22nd in the Arab region. The Arab ranking for Universities “ARU” 2023 includes 115 universities across 16 Arab countries. From Egypt, 28 Egyptian universities participated which was the highest number of universities among the 16 participating Arab countries.
AASTMT ranked 2nd in Egypt and 3rd in the Arab region in the international and national cooperation and community service index. AASTMT also ranked 9th among Egyptian universities and 20th regionally in the creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation index.
AASTMT ranked 15th in Egypt and 31st in the region in the education and learning index. ARU comes considering the common interest between the League of Arab States, the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO), the Union of Arab Universities, and the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils to improve the outcomes of higher education and scientific research.
The ARU ranking criteria was established in accordance with a selected set of global standards that are consistent with the Arab state’s environment and based on four Indices consistent with the vision and needs of Arab countries, which are the education and learning index, the scientific research index, the creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation index, and the international and national cooperation and community service index.
