Egypt is preparing to host the 46th and 47th International Programming Championship, which will be held in Luxor from April 14th to 19th, 2024. The championship is organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic of EGYPT.
The ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest is the premiere global programming competition conducted by and for the world’s universities

ICPCoperates under the auspices of the ICPC Foundation, which hosts ICPC Global Headquarters. ICPC spotlights the students, coaches, universities, industry, and communities working to advance prospects of prosperity through team-based, algorithmic, competitive programming.
At its core, ICPC is a team-based programming competition that tests participants’ problem-solving skills, algorithmic proficiency, and teamwork. Teams typically work together to solve a set of programming challenges within a limited time frame. These challenges span various domains, including algorithms, data structures, mathematics, and problem analysis. The ICPC traces its roots to a competition held at Texas A&M in 1970 hosted by the Alpha Chapter of the UPE Computer Science Honor Society. The idea quickly gained popularity within the United States and Canada as an innovative initiative to raise the aspirations, performance, and opportunity of the top students in the emerging field of computer science.
ICPC plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation, excellence, and collaboration within the field of computer science (read about this study field at AAST). By providing a platform for students to showcase their talents and exchange ideas with peers from around the world, ICPC nurtures a vibrant community of future leaders in technology and academia. The skills and insights gained through participation in ICPC transcend the competition itself, equipping students with invaluable problem-solving abilities and real-world experience that will serve them well in their careers.
Under the Auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Professor Dr Ismail AbdulGhaffar (president of AASTMT) stated that the sponsorship of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, for the championship in Egypt, reflects his keen interest in youth and the Egyptian state’s investment in the human element, alongside his belief in creativity, innovation, and the knowledge economy to achieve long-term sustainability. Professor Ismail pointed out that youth are the nucleus of the future, possessing passion, energy, and immense potential that can be harnessed to achieve growth and progress in various fields.
Professor Dr Ismail AbdulGhaffar emphasised that President Sisi’s support to youth is a central aspect of his attention, clearly evident in activities, events, conferences, initiatives, youth forums, and their projects, all of which the President prioritises greatly.

A Global Gathering of Minds at LUXOR

Luxor, with its rich history and breathtaking landscapes, provided a mesmerizing backdrop for the ICPC World Finals. Participants will be greeted by the awe-inspiring sights of Luxor’s iconic landmarks, including the magnificent Karnak and Luxor temples, adding a touch of grandeur to the competition.
Beyond the competition itself, the Luxor Programming Contest served as a catalyst for cultural exchange and dialogue. Participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich Egyptian culture, exploring the ancient wonders of Luxor, sampling traditional cuisine, and forging meaningful connections with fellow contestants from around the world.
The competition attracted participants from universities and institutions worldwide, representing a diverse tapestry of cultures, languages, and backgrounds. As teams converge on Luxor, they bring with them a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experiences, ready to put their coding prowess to the test in a series of exhilarating challenges. AAST is dedicated to empowering Arab Youth with technology skills and knowledge to create a better tomorrow.

For the last 15 years, AASTMT has accepted the responsibility of hosting the ICPC Africa and Arab Region Headquarters and ensuring the support and continuity of ICPC events. Team participation has grown 100 times during this period, with university participation now spanning the countries throughout the multi-continental region. Under the auspices of AASTMT, ICPC’s Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (“ACPC”) has seen a significant rise in government support, including from Ministries of Telecommunications, Education, and Tourism in many countries throughout the multi-continental region.
These partners have made it possible for the ACPC to scale and uplift emerging talent to performance levels essential to meet the needs of their communities, large and small. For more than 50 years AASTMT has been dedicated to empowering generations. Today AASTMT offers more than 14 different fields of study. Among these are Computing Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, all of which aim to foster future problem-solvers. Hosting the ICPC enables AAST to contribute to its vision of inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators. Indeed through this event, AAST aims to contribute to the long-term growth and success of the global computing community. Read more about the different fields of study offered at AASTMT.
Programming is a creative outlet and a pathway to empowerment… Why Learning to Code Matters??

In today’s increasingly digital world, the ability to code has become a valuable skill with far-reaching implications. Learning to code opens up a world of opportunities and possibilities. Here are a few reasons why programming is so important:
- Problem-Solving Superpower: At its core, coding is about solving problems. When you learn to code, you develop the ability to break down complex issues into smaller, more manageable parts and devise systematic solutions.
- Fueling Innovation: Some of the most groundbreaking innovations of our time have been powered by code.
- Empowerment Through Creation: One of the most empowering aspects of coding is the ability to create something from scratch.
- In-Demand Skillset: In today’s job market, coding skills are in high demand. Whether you’re interested in software development, data science, cybersecurity, or web design, proficiency in coding opens up a world of career opportunities
- Digital Literacy for the Future: As technology continues to evolve, understanding the basics of coding is becoming increasingly important for digital literacy. Just as reading and writing are essential skills for navigating the world, coding literacy equips you with the tools you need to understand and interact with technology in meaningful ways.
